Ketubah Text FAQs
How do I choose my text/what texts are available?

Return to FAQs

Q: How do I choose my text/what texts are available?

A: We are very proud of our extraordinary Ketubah texts. It is important to us that we create and offer Ketubah texts that are unique, simple and poetic. Our Hebrew translations are as elegantly written as our English texts.

Our texts poetically convey traditional concepts of love and commitment. Each original, unique and beautiful English text is accompanied by a Hebrew text that represents, as closely as possible, the sentiments conveyed in the English version.

Although choosing a text is a highly personal decision, we strongly recommend that you consult with your Rabbi or Officiant before choosing a text to ensure that the text is acceptable and appropriate for your ceremony.

We offer the following text options:

Orthodox Texts

The Orthodox text is written in Aramaic, a language which dates back to the 1st Century. This traditional text is, in essence, a prenuptial agreement, ensuring that the bride will be taken care of financially by the groom in the event of the dissolution of the marriage.

The Orthodox Hebrew/Aramaic text is offered two ways:
1. Orthodox Hebrew/Aramaic-only; or
2. Orthodox Hebrew/Aramaic with one of our non-literal Reform, Interfaith, or Commitment English texts.

Conservative Texts

The Conservative text is the same as the Orthodox text, with the exception of the addition of a 20th Century provision called the "Lieberman Clause", which requires a groom to agree to give his bride a divorce if she so desires.

The Conservative Hebrew/Aramaic text is offered two ways:
  1. Conservative Hebrew/Aramaic-only; or
  2. Conservative Hebrew/Aramaic with one of our non-literal Reform, Interfaith or Commitment English texts.

Commitment Texts
Our Commitment text respects and celebrates the depth and validity of same-sex unions. Each Commitment text is available in both a masculine and a feminine version. When placing your order for a Ketubah with Commitment text, you will be able to specify which version you need.
